SciFinder Database Guide
Database Overview
SciFinder is the expanded electronic version of Chemical
Abstracts. It includes citations and abstracts for journal articles and
other materials on chemistry and related areas, including agriculture, biology
and medicine, engineering, food science and nutrition, geology, and physics.
The database also permits searching by chemical structures and reactions.
SciFinder Scholar covers literature from the mid-19th century to
present.
Use Restrictions
- Limited to use by faculty, students, and staff of the University of Maine
- Limited to use for academic research, coursework, or instruction at the
University of Maine
- Limited to use on computers connected to the University of Maine campus
network, or authenticated by the library proxy server
- Unavailable from 10 pm Saturday until 1 am Sunday each week for
maintenance. On the first Saturday of each month the database is unavailable
from 5 pm Saturday until 1 am Sunday for maintenance. (All times are U.S.
Eastern Time.)
Getting Started
System requirements for SciFinder
First time users need to register,
and create an individual username and password,
at the
University of Maine SciFinder Registration site.
- Enter your University of Maine e-mail address when registering, even if
you normally forward your e-mail to another account.
- You should receive an e-mail message from CAS within 30 minutes. Click
the confirmation link within the message. Use a computer located on
campus to complete this step successfully.
