1. WORKSHOPS
A. BASICS OF USING A GPS RECEIVER
What is the Global Positioning System (GPS)? How does one operate a GPS
receiver? This workshop will take place Thursday October 25, 3:00 - 6:00 pm in
the Library Classroom. It covers: basic terminology, selected hardware and
software, how to download the resulting file, and hands-on experience. Portions
of this class held outdoors, so come prepared for the weather. Receivers will

2. COLLECTIONS
A. NEW IN REFERENCE: GROVE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF CLASSICAL ART AND ARCHITECTURE
The Grove encyclopedia of classical art and architecture is a two-volume
visual arts reference resource that spans the roughly four thousand year
Classical period. It has more than 1,000 well-written articles on topics from
acrolith (statue with wood body and stone limbs) to Zygouries - the site of an
early and late Bronze Age in southern Greece. The entries in this reference
resource cover art forms, artists, rulers, philosophers, architecture, works of
art, archaeological sites, and stylistic developments. (Call number REF

B. HEALTH EDUCATION RESOURCE COLLECTION (HERC)
The Health Education Resource Collection (HERC) is a state-funded collection
of print, curriculum, and audio/visual materials maintained by the Fogler
Library. HERC contains approximately 1800 titles relating to health and
nutrition education.
The primary patrons of HERC are K-12 health educators throughout the state of
Maine. The collection is also available to university students, staff, and
faculty. Students enrolled in education and health care courses are encouraged
to use HERC resources.
The HERC print collection is located on the library's second floor, in the
Learning Materials Center (LMC). All HERC print materials are cataloged in URSUS.
HERC audio/visuals and curriculum guides are NOT cataloged in URSUS, and are
housed in the HERC office on the first floor. See website for office hours.
The entire catalog of HERC resources, including audio/visuals and curriculum
guides, may also be browsed and borrowed online at the HERC website: [
