1. SERVICES
A. GIS FOR BUSINESSPEOPLE WORKSHOP AVAILABLE TO YOU AND YOUR STUDENTS
Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a desirable skill for
entry to many professions. Help your students broaden their career options by
letting them know about the GIS for Businesspeople Workshop to be held Thursday,
November 8, 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the Library.
The workshop focus is a simulation of best-site decision making aided by
computer mapping with ArcView GIS software. Distribution of potential customers,
their buying power and presence /absence of competitors might be difficult to
interpret from raw statistics, but are seen quickly when mapped out. The
workshop includes hands-on experience, with option to schedule additional
self-paced time on the Library's GeoStats computer.
Faculty are also welcome to attend. Description at:
http://library.umaine.edu/newmedia/#Computer_Mapping . Register with Karen
Stewart:
karen.stewart@umit.maine.edu, voice: 581-1680. Part of the Fogler Library
Workshop Series.

3. DATABASES
A. TERMS FOR USE FOR LICENSED MATERIALS
Fogler Library, the University of Maine System Libraries, and the Maine State
Library have signed license agreements that govern the use of many of our online
databases, indexes, e-journals, e-books, CD-ROMs, and even printed books, in
some cases. The agreements require us to provide access only to authorized users
(usually, University of Maine students, staff, and faculty). They also require
that authorized users follow acceptable use policies. Misuse of licensed
resources may result in loss of access for the individual or even the entire
University of Maine community. See
www.library.umaine.edu/terms_of_use.htm for more information. Please contact
Deb Rollins, Head, Collection Services, at 581-1659 if you have questions
concerning acceptable use of library resources.
