To request Fogler Library Materials
University of Maine faculty and staff may use the Document Delivery Service to

retrieved from the stacks, and will be checked them out to the person submitting
the request. For journal articles staff will retrieve and photocopy the
requested material at a cost of 8 cents a page. (Please specify a departmental
account number to charge.)
To request delivery please fill out the web form at <library.umaine.edu/circ/docdeliv.htm>
(For journal articles there is also an email option <article.requests@umit.maine.edu>).
Requested materials will be sent to you through campus mail, usually within 24
hours. When available in .pdf format we can make electronic delivery. Please
indicate your preference for hard-copy or electronic. For more information or to
check on the status of a request call Photocopy Services at 581-1684.
Interlibrary Loan

for books not listed in, or that do not currently have a status of "Available"
in the URSUS and Maine InfoNet catalogs. For first time use of ILLIAD, please

2. DATABASES
A. NEW DATABASE FOR EVALUATING IMPACT OF JOURNALS: JCR
Fogler Library now subscribes to Journal Citation Reports (JCR) from Thomson ISI.
JCR allows the user to evaluate and compare the impact of journals. Journals can
be displayed by subject area and organized by impact factor, total citations to
the journal, immediacy index, total number of articles, and cited-half life.
Individual journal titles can be searched.
A journal’s impact factor is defined by JCR as the number of citations to
articles published in a 2-year period divided by the number of articles
published during those same 2 years. JCR indexes over 5,900 journals from the
sciences and over 1,700 journals from the social sciences. Please read “Using
Journal Citation Reports Wisely” in the Information for New Users window. JCR is
available from the Indexes and Databases page <library.umaine.edu/indexesdb/Indexes.asp>
of Fogler Library’s website.
B. ERIC DATABASE NOW AVAIALBLE ONLINE INTWO VERSIONS
Fogler Library is now offering links to both the EBSCO and the CSA versions of
ERIC from its "Indexes and Databases" menu <http://library.umaine.edu/indexesdb/Indexes.asp>.
The newly offered CSA version has the added value of pulling out peer-reviewed
journals in the results. This was achieved by using Ulrich's Periodic Directory,
a CSA product.
Sorting by peer-review status is not a feature available in EBSCO at the present
time. However the search interface of the EBSCO version is very user-friendly
and that version of the database is part of the the repertory of Maine state
supported databases.
