1. SERVICES
A. LIBRARY WEB PAGE FOR UMAINE FACULTY
Expressly for the faculty, the Library maintains a web page
www.library.umaine.edu/govdoc/forfaculty.htm with links to internal and
external services and information that we hope will be useful to you and save
you time. You'll find news items, the status various Library projects and
developments, and archived copies of Library's online and print newsletters.
There are links to interactive Library forms to request: campus delivery of
journal articles and books held here at Fogler Library; placing materials on
Reserve -- hard-copy or electronic format; and interlibrary loan of books or
photocopies of journal articles. Without leaving one's office, a faculty member
can also request reference assistance via e-mail or the Web.
Supporting communication with the library staff are: a list of the faculty
liaison librarian for each department; information about requesting a
bibliographic instruction session for your class; and examples of course guides
created for these sessions.
Did you know that we have reciprocal faculty borrowing privileges at nearly
200 other university libraries? Check out that link and others for: copyright
and fair use information; scholarly book reviews from H-NET Reviews; online
directories to find faculty at other colleges and universities; and contact
information for periodical publishers and suppliers of in-print and out-of-print
books and periodicals. Did we miss something? Please email the Co-Editor,
Frank Wihbey on FirstClass or
frankw@umit.maine.edu.
2. DATABASES
A. ACM DIGITAL LIBRARY ADDED
Fogler Library is pleased to announce ACM Digital Library, a scholarly research
database for computer science and information technology. Published by the
Association of Computing Machinery, much of the content was previously available
at the library only in print. .
There are two parts to the ACM Digital Library: The Digital Library Core Package
includes the full-text of over 40 ACM computing and information technology
journals, magazines and transactions in an online archive ranging from the 1950s
to current publications. The Digital Library Master Special Interest Group (SIG)
Package includes the full text of all ACM conference proceedings and newsletters
in full text, dating back to the early 1950s. Together, these packages provide a
complete backfile of all ACM publications in a fully searchable full-text
database.
