1. SERVICES
A. FOGLER LIBRARY HOME PAGE ON WEB - NEW LOOK
We have a new look on the Fogler Library top level page! (http://library.umaine.edu/default.asp
) Here are some of the highlights that
we encourage you to explore:
. Quick Link options - We've moved some key links to the top level page with
a "Quick Search" box which you will find top and center. Use the tabs to quickly
explore access to essential Library services including: Reserves, Renewals,
Subject Portals and Indexes and Databases.
. URSUS Quick Search - we've also added a quick search box link for URSUS,
your best option for one stop searching of all Fogler Library resources. Our
user statistics led us to title as your default search option but you can use
the pulldown window to switch to keyword, author or subject searching.
. Library as Place - We've added a photo of the library and direct links to
hours, contacts and maps of the building.
Thanks go to our Fogler Library Focus Group participants for their evaluation of
the prototype as we prepared for the new year launch of the page. We want to
continue to be as responsive as we can to our diverse user community! If you
have a question, concern or constructive comment we want to hear from you!

B. FINDING FULL TEXT FASTER WITH ARTICLE LINKER
We are pleased to announce ArticleLinker, a new service that makes finding
full-text articles even easier. ArticleLinker links have been set up in most of
the major databases subscribed by the library, such as those from EBSCO (e.g.
Academic Search Premier, PsycINFO), CSA (e.g. Sociological Abstracts, Aquatic
Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts), and Gale (MLA Bibliography). To use
ArticleLinker, next time you do a literature search:
If there are no ArticleLinker icons next to citations in a database, the
publisher may not support the technology used, and URSUS should be consulted for
online and print journal holdings. Questions? Please contact Reference at
207-581-1673.
2. INVITATION TO TAPAS BAR - PROCEEDS BENEFIT FOGLER LIBRARY
A. A Tapas Bar in Orono? Yes, indeed, thanks to the efforts of Kathleen
March (Modern Languages and Classics) and Gretchen Gfeller (Fogler Library).
Fogler Library will host a Tapas Bar on Thursday, 26 January from 4-6 p.m. in
the University Club. There will be a cash bar. And, just to make things
interesting, all the food will be prepared by faculty volunteers. The cost is
$12 per person. All the proceeds go to support Fogler Library.
Participating faculty include: Ali Abedi, Liz Depoy, Scott Johnson, Dorothy
Klimis-Zacas, Kathleen March, John Mahon, Bob Rice, Maria Sandweiss, Touradj
Solouki, and Maria Tijan-Weick.
Please stop by for a quick snack and a chance to visit with friends and
colleagues. This event is open to the entire University community and the
general public. For more information, contact Gretchen Gfeller. Voice:
