1. DATABASES
A. PSYCINFO RELOADED - NEW SEARCH FEATURES
PsycINFO has completed the 2005 reload from the American Psychology Association.
The reload includes an updated thesaurus and new features designed to make
searching easier. Users will now find that all results are categorized by
publication type. Links along the top enable users to click on results for All
Journals, Peer Reviewed Journals, Books, Encyclopedias, Dissertation Abstracts,
or Electronic Collections. A methodology field has been added that allows users
using Advanced Search to limit searches to Literature Review, Meta Analysis,
Field Study, Longitudinal Study, etc. This database may be accessed from
www.library.umaine.edu/indexesdb/Indexes.asp.
B. NEW ADDITIONS TO CSA SOCIOLOGICAL ABSTRACTS
More than 15,000 backfile records from 1952-1962 have been added to the
Sociological Abstracts database, offering electronic access to some of the early
literature of sociology. Also, abstracts have been added to records from 1963 to
1972, and Cited References have been added to thousands of records from 2002 to
present. This database may be accessed from
www.library.umaine.edu/indexesdb/Indexes.asp.
2. WORKSHOPS/SEMINARS
A. FREE WEB-BASED SEMINAR FOR LEXISNEXIS CONGRESSIONAL UNIVERSE
We have been informed by LexisNexis that their Congressional Universe database
interface will change on December 10, 2005. It will be much more streamlined and
will allow for more clarity in searching. From almost 20 search forms, they are
moving to three. In order to familiarize current subscribers with the new
interface, LexisNexis is having two webinar sessions, to be hosted by
MeetingPlace e-Conferences, Inc. on Thursday, December 15, 2005. You may choose
either the morning session (10:00 - 11:30) OR the afternoon session (1:30 -
3:00). To attend a web conference from your PC:
1. To be sure your browser is configured properly please go to
https://conference.lexisnexis.com/
and run the browser test (click on obscure link near bottom of page) well
before the meeting date.
2. These next instructions will not work until December 15. To join a Web
conference, point your web browser to either:
https://conference.lexisnexis.com/join.asp?2818 for the AM session.
https://conference.lexisnexis.com/join.asp?6163 for the PM session.
(Note: the meeting ID 2818 for the morning session or meeting ID 6163 for the
afternoon session will be automatically entered for you.)
3. At the next screen enter your name in the "Guest" box on the left side of
the page.
4. Click the "Attend Meeting" button at the bottom of the page.
5. Click the "Yes" option when encountering any security messages that appear
as you connect to the Web conference.
