A. TALK BY W. H. BUNTING, AUTHOR OF SEA STRUCK
On Thursday, 11 November, 6 p.m.in the Special Collections Department, third floor, Fogler Library W. H. Bunting will talk about his new book, Sea Struck. Sea Struck is about the final decades of American square-rigged sail as recorded in firsthand accounts. It is described by David McCullough as a book that, "should be an instant classic." "I don't know when I've become so immediately absorbed in a book about people I had never heard of and knew nothing about." The talk is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

B. LBR 200 - INFORMATION LITERACY COURSE
LBR 200 - Information Literacy will be offered in the Spring 2005 semester. This course focuses on the flow and understanding of information in today’s society. Students will develop skills necessary to navigate information resources as well as to critically evaluate these same resources. Students will also become aware of the legal, economic, social, and public policy aspects of information resources. LBR 200 meets the general education requirement for Human Values and Social Context/Social Contexts and Institutions. The course is limited to 20 students to take full advantage of the 20 workstations in Fogler Library’s instruction room, located on the first floor of the library. Nancy Lewis, Head of Fogler Library’s Reference Department will be the instructor. LBR 200 has been very favorably received by both students and faculty and we encourage you to consider recommending it during your advising sessions. A. NEW OXFORD DICTIONARY OF NATIONAL BIOGRAPHY
Thanks to gift funding, the Library has purchased the new Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. The 60-volume set is shelved at Ref DA28 .O95 2004 in the Reference area on the first floor. Access from campus computers to the online version is available for one year, by linking from the record in URSUS. Twelve years in the making, the new edition collects "50,000 specially written biographies of the men and women who shaped all aspects of Britain's past, from the fourth century BC to the year 2000."
