1. SERVICES
A. The Science & Engineering Center librarians are available to teach
library instruction classes in all areas of the sciences and engineering.
During these sessions, librarians discuss both web-based and print,
subject-specific resources with your class, and how to select a topic and
gain background information as well as to formulate criteria for evaluating
resources.

Because available resources change at a rapid pace, we find that even those
undergraduates and graduate students who have had previous library
instruction sessions will benefit. For most classes, students receive
hands-on experience using web-based resources. Librarians can also come
directly to your classroom to conduct a class on library resources. They
can create a variety of supporting materials for your classes, including
class web pages and handouts. For those working with Blackboard or Web-CT,
we can recommend resource links and/or create resource pages tailored to
your particular needs. To schedule a session or discuss how the Science
Center librarians can help you with your resource needs, please call the
Science Center office at x1691 or go to the Science & Engineering Center
People web page at: http://www.library.umaine.edu/sec/people.htm

2. WORKSHOPS
A. MAINE PATENT PROGRAM INVENTORS FORUM

3. DATABASES
A. WEB OF SCIENCE TRIAL THROUGH FEBRUARY 26
The library currently has a trial to Web of Science which runs through
February 26, 2003. URL: http://library.umaine.edu/colldev/trials.htm. Web of
Science is a unique online database resource covering journal and other
literature in the sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities. Users
may search for articles that cite a specified author or article, retrieve
all citations in a certain article, or search by author, keyword, journal
name, etc. A cross-linking system allows a search for related references
based on citation analysis. The trial database covers 1975 to present.
