1. ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. FOGLER FILM SERIES CONTINUES
The Fogler Film Series continues with "Inside Job," a documentary by
Charles Ferguson, on October 3rd, at 7:00 p.m. This film uses
interviews to provide an analysis of the 2008 global financial
crisis. The film will be followed by a discussion facilitated by
Adjunct Professor Robert Roper. "Inside Job" will be shown in the
Collaborative Media Lab classroom on the first floor of the Library.
B. DIGITALCOMMONS@UMAINE FOR FACULTY
DigitalCommons@UMaine <http://digitalcommons.library.umaine.edu/>,
our new Institutional Repository, offers a free alternative to
disseminate research, scholarship, and creative activity as required
by many departmental missions and federal granting agencies. It
benefits faculty by increasing global exposure to research,
scholarship, and creative output. Want to learn more? There will be
an introduction to DigitalCommons@UMaine for faculty on Tuesday,
October 9th from 1-3 p.m. in the Library Computer Classroom. This
presentation features an overview of DigitalCommons, a brief
introduction to the program's essential tools and concepts for
uploading material. Faculty members will also have an opportunity to
set up personal Selected Works pages. To register, email Kim
Sawtelle at <kimberly.sawtelle@umit.maine.edu>.
C. MAINE WOODS: OBSERVATIONS OF BERT LINCOLN CALL AND HENRY DAVID
THOREAU
The vast and varied beauty of the Maine woods will be the focus when
Fogler Library presents, “Maine Woods: Observations of Bert Lincoln
Call and Henry David Thoreau” in the Library’s Special Collections
department on Thursday, October 18th beginning at 3:00 p.m. Our
presenter is Frank Spizuoco from the Dexter Historical Society, who
has nurtured and promoted the work of Bert Lincoln Call for over
forty years. This event will also include a look inside the Bert
Call Collection that is part of UMaine’s new institutional
repository, DigitalCommons@UMaine. This event is free and open to
the public. For more information, contact Gretchen Gfeller at
