1. COLLECTIONS
A. ALL SCIFINDER SEATS CHANGING TO WEB ACCESS
SciFinder, the expanded electronic version of Chemical Abstracts, is available
on the Web. The client software version of the database will be phased out
shortly after April 30. After this date, users will need to create personal
accounts to use SciFinder. For details on creating an account, see the SciFinder
guide <http://library.umaine.edu/science/scifinder.htm>.
For more information contact Nancy Curtis <nancy.curtis@umit.maine.edu>
or call 581-1679.
B. BOOK ORDERS
Each year, Fogler Library purchases approximately 5,000 books on the
recommendation of faculty, librarians, and other members of the University
community. The library allocates part of its materials budget to subject areas
which correspond to the University's academic departments, colleges and/or
schools. These funds are intended to be used to acquire materials that fall
outside our approval and profiled books plans. Faculty and staff are invited to
submit requests for books that address curriculum and research-related needs.
Use our Book Recommendation Form <http://www.library.umaine.edu/colldev/recbook.htm>,
or mail or e-mail requests to the librarian assigned to your college or
department <http://www.library.umaine.edu/colldev/contacts.htm>.
For more information about how books and other materials are selected and
acquired, see <http://www.library.umaine.edu/colldev/howmaterial.htm>.
