1. SERVICES
A. LIBRARY WORKSHOPS
There is still time to register for Business Librarian Stephen Fadel’s
workshops. “Investor's Toolbox” on Thurs., Feb. 10th, from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
offers a hands-on review of information sources useful for investors. Types of
sources covered include reviews of mutual funds, industry surveys, and stock
reports. This session is followed on Wed., Feb 16th by “Business Plans,” a
workshop for those thinking of creating or updating a business plan. There will
be a review of industry and demographic data sources as well as tips on where to
go for sample business plans. More information available on the Library
Workshops web site: <http://www.library.umaine.edu/newmedia/>.
B. LINGO LANGUAGE TRANSLATOR
Fogler Library now has a Lingo Language Translator available for students to
sign out. The hand-held device was purchased by the Office of International
Programs and is designed to provide international students who are not yet
comfortable with English with help in translating. In particular, there may be
professional or technical terms that a student is exposed to in his/her courses
that the student has not yet learned in English. The Translator is a small
lightweight device that provides vocabulary and phrase translations in 12
different languages. It can be used for exams, research papers, or labs. The
Language Translator is available at the Reserve Desk and may be signed out for 1
day. For more information call 581-1641.
C. GEOSTATS WORKSTATION
The GeoStats workstation located near the map cabinets in the Information
Commons has been upgraded with Delorme's Topo North America software version
9.0. This new version includes information on all of North America: the United
States, Canada, and Mexico. The earlier version of the software accessed only
United States topographic information. Topographic information may either be
printed on the adjacent large-format, color printer or saved to your GPS enabled
device. If you have any questions please contact Greg Curtis Head of Government
Publications, Maps, and GIS at <gregory.curtis@umit.maine.edu>
or call 581-1681.
