    Book Retrieval Service

University of Maine faculty and staff may use URSUS to request that books located at Fogler Library be sent to your Orono campus office. When viewing the record for an item you wish to request, click request and enter the information requested. In the box labeled "Choose a Pickup Location," select "Orono." Circulation staff will retrieve the books from the stacks, check them out to you, and send them through campus mail, usually within 24 hours. 

   Journal Article Retrieval Service

University of Maine faculty and staff may use this service to obtain photocopies or pdf copies of journal articles held by Fogler Library. Photocopy Services staff retrieves, scans and sends the journal article(s) as an email attachment to the person submitting the request, usually within 24 hours. For more information or to check on the status of a request call Photocopy Services at 581-1684.

Cost

The cost is .08 per page. A departmental account number must be supplied for the photocopy/scanning charges. Your department will be billed once a month for photocopies/pdf documents. 

How to request journal articles

Requests may be made:

• Through your ILLiad account. If requesting via ILLiad, please enter a cost value you are willing to pay for the article. In the 'notes' field, please indicate that this is a document delivery request, and include your departmental account.
• by e-mail addressed to article.requests@umit.maine.edu

Requests must include the following information:

• name, telephone number, and campus address of the person making the request
• department name and account number to be charged
• full citation for each article, including
          title, volume, and date of the journal
          title and author of the article
          page numbers to be copied

 
URSUS and InfoNet delivery services

Most books that are listed in the URSUS and InfoNet catalogs with the status "Available," and are located at libraries other than Fogler (e.g. UM-Fort Kent, Bowdoin), may be requested online. When viewing a record in URSUS for an item you wish to request, click the request button and enter the information required. In the box labeled "Choose Pickup Location," select "Orono." Within InfoNet, first select "URSUS" from the pull-down menu below the question "With which institution are you affiliated?" After the lending library mails the books to Fogler Library, Circulation staff will check them out to you and send them through campus mail. Books are usually delivered within one week. 

Interlibrary Loan

Use Interlibrary Loan (ILL) forms for articles in journals not held by Fogler Library, and for books not listed in, or not currently "available" for request in, the URSUS and InfoNet catalogs.  For more information, contact Interlibrary Loan at 581-1671.

Need something immediately

Consult librarians in the Reference Department at 581-1673, or the Science and Engineering Center at 581-1691, for other delivery options, such as full-text databases and commercial delivery services.
