Fogler Welcomes New Staff

Bill Meloy recently joined the staff as head of Fogler's Media Resource Center. Originally from Youngstown, Ohio. Meloy comes to the University of Maine from his job as Coordinator of the Multimedia Center and Education Librarian at Cleveland State University. He received his MLS degree from Kent State University in 1996 and a bachelor's degree in English from Lafayette College in 1993.

The Media Resource Center, a new unit formed by combining the Learning Materials Center and the Listening Center, is already benefiting from Meloy's experience. He has begun developing the broad collections and services of the Center, including the K-12 learning materials and the various media collections. He hopes to build upon the innovative work done by Fogler's Digital Library Committee whose projects include implementing audio reserves, which enables French 101 students to access audio language files online, and the more recent Listening Center Online, which provides steaming audio of 7,200 tracks from the Center's compact disk collection.

Lois Nase joined the staff of the Science and Engineering Center in March. She will focus her efforts on instruction, reference services, and collection development for the engineering, computer science, and mathematics departments. She will also oversee the Patent and Trademark Depository Library Program at Fogler Library.

Nase has had over 14 years of experience in science and engineering university libraries. Most of this time was spent at the Engineering and Chemistry Libraries at Princeton University. Here she enjoyed managing and enlarging the collections and assisting faculty and students with their research. She also evaluated, promoted and utilized a multitude of databases. Her most recent 5 years at Princeton were spent in interlibrary services, social science reference, and electronic resources implementation.

She holds a Master's of Library Science from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ursinus College. Lois may be reached by email at  lois.nase@umit.maine.edu  or at 207-581-1678.
