Gov. John Baldacci, a 1986 University of Maine graduate, returned to his alma mater along with hundreds of other UMaine alums for Reunion 2004 from Friday June 4th - Sunday June 6th. A series of activities intended to evoke memories of college years and to provide a glimpse into university life in 2004, were held throughout the weekend.
A highlight of this year's reunion was the dedication ceremony for the Fogler Library Steps and Terrace Renovation project, a $900,000 upgrade to the front of one of UMaine's signature buildings. The dedication was held on Friday afternoon in front of the library. Landscaping for the project was completed in time for the ceremony and those in attendance were among the first to see the finished product. The ceremony featured a reading of "Steps," a poem by Pat Smith Ranzoni, a 1962 UMaine graduate and a poet who wrote "Steps" to celebrate this occasion.
