Friends Event Update
A celebration and ribbon cutting marking the opening of Buchanan Alumni House was held on Friday, May 31 at 2 p.m. at the facility on College Avenue at The University of Maine. The event was part of last spring's alumni weekend and was attended by alumni and friends of the University.

The $7.3 million Buchanan Alumni House, named in honor of Dr. Robert D. Buchanan, Class of 1944, is the result of the largest private fund-raising campaign in UMaine history. The UMaine Alumni Association and The University of Maine Foundation spearheaded the project and will be housed in the new facility. The facility also includes the Allain Library, where works of University of Maine authors will be displayed.

As part of the festivities, the Friends sponsored a book signing and book sale event. University of Maine authors were invited to sign and sell their books in conjunction with the archiving efforts of the Allain Library. The authors donated a percentage of their profits to the Friends. A total of twenty-one authors participated.

A special thank you goes out to Friends' board member Paul Bauschatz who was on hand to assist coordinator Gretchen Gfeller and Fogler Library staff during the event.
