Dr. Charlie Slavin, Dean of The
Honors College

Charlie Slavin
is the Dean of the Honors College at the University of Maine. His
passion for interdisciplinary teaching and mentoring student
research led him to the University’s Honors Program in 1997 and to
advance its transition to an Honors College in 2002. During his
tenure with Honors at UMaine, the number of students involved and
graduating with Honors has tripled.
In 1984, Dr. Slavin joined the faculty of the
Department of Mathematics at the University of Maine. His research
interests span the boundary between real and complex analysis,
primarily in the areas of harmonic analysis and singular integral
theory, and he has an ongoing interest in the history and philosophy
of science. An active member of the National Collegiate Honors
Council, Dr. Slavin sits on its Executive Committee and its Teaching
& Learning Committee, and chairs its Professional Development
Committee. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Pi
Mu Epsilon.
Dr. Slavin earned
his A.B. in Mathematics at Princeton University and both his M.A.
and Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin. |
