Borrowing Policies and Loan Rules [top]Located at the south end of campus, beside Sawyer Environmental Research Center, Fogler Annex houses infrequently used books, archival materials, pre-1935 bound periodicals, and government documents. Materials stored there are listed in the URSUS catalog as "ORO Annex". Closed to the public, requests for items are made at the Circulation desk. Items are retrieved on weekdays only.
Request at or before: Ready for pick-up: 10:00am 11:00am 3:00pm 4:00pm
Change of Address [top]Material available for loan through the Circulation Desk includes the circulating collection on levels 2 and 3, Government Documents, the Oakes Room books, the Reserve Collection, and Learning Materials Center material. Reference materials and journals do not circulate. Special Collections and Media Resource Center materials must be checked out in those departments.
University of Maine borrowers must be currently enrolled or employed at the University; they must present their University of Maine MaineCard to borrow books, use the reserve collection, or borrow from the Media Resource Center. University of Maine System borrowers (e.g. students and employees from other campuses) must be currently enrolled or employed by the system, and must present their university library identification card to borrow books or use the reserve collections. Alumni, Courtesy, and corporate card patrons must have a current record at Fogler Library and must present their Courtesy card to borrow books or use the reserve collection.
The loan periods for the circulating collection are:
- University of Maine Graduate Students semester loan
- University of Maine Honors Students semester loan
- University of Maine Undergraduate Students 28 day loan
- University of Maine Faculty semester loan
- University of Maine Staff semester loan
- University of Maine Alumni 28 day loan

- Maine State & Bangor Public Library patrons 28 day loan (as of October 16, 2006)
Loan periods for Government Documents, Oakes Room and the Learning Materials Center vary and are often limited to 28 days or less. Most material can be renewed, and all material is subject to recall after two weeks, or immediately if needed for reserve.
If you have changed your name, address, telephone number, or social security number, that information must be changed at both the student record office and at the library. Please see Circulation Staff to make changes in your information at the library.
Lockers [top]Fogler Library accepts several kinds of identification cards, as outlined below. All cards, including MaineCards, must be entered into the library patron database before library services (e.g. book check-out, online database access, requesting materials through URSUS) can be used. Staff at the Circulation Desk will link the library barcode on the MaineCard to the patron record in the library database upon request.
General note about library identification cards and online database access: Due to licensing agreements with database vendors, the only card that provides online access to licensed indexes and databases is the University MaineCard. Other cardholders may search online databases from within the library, but not from remote locations.
Fogler Library uses the University MaineCard as the library identification card. MaineCard holders must be currently enrolled or employed at the University to borrow material. The Gold MaineCard is also used as the library identification card.
University of Maine System Cards [top]
Fogler Library accepts library cards from the other libraries in the University of Maine System if there is a valid patron record in the patron database. Use of Media Resource Center materials limited to within the library building.

Pick-up Location for Held Materials [top]
All material requested through Interlibrary Loan, the URSUS request function, Maine InfoNet, or from Fogler Library holds and recalls are held at the main circulation desk. Material is held for approximately one week, so please pick up your material promptly. You will need your identification card to get the material held at Circulation.
Printing and Copying in the Library [top]
Along with other campus departments the Library has implemented a print management system. Pharos Uniprint has been installed on the printers in the Information Commons and Science and Engineering Center. Students and staff will be given $16.00 on their MaineCard each semester to use for printing at any of the Uniprint locations. The print management system tracks usage and will show the printing funds balance each time you swipe your card. If the $16.00 is used before the end of the semester the system will automatically draw from whatever campus funds are available on your card. The printing charge at the library is .04 per page.
Photocopying at Fogler library also uses the MaineCard for payment. The copying charges come from the campus funds account. You can add money to your MaineCard Campus Funds in either the MaineCard office, Fogler Library or in the Union lobby. The copying charge at the library is .08 per page.
