FINDING BOOKS
How do you find books on theater?
Whenever you want a book on a particular topic
you can simply go to online library catalogs to find books (as well as other items).
Here are the online library catalogs most often used to find books:
- URSUS
- our catalog (includes all University of Maine System libraries, Bangor
Public Library, Maine State Library, and the Maine State Law and Legislative
Reference Library)
- Maine InfoNet (State of Maine)
LIBRARY OF CONGRESS SUBJECT HEADINGS:
By performing a subject search in URSUS, you may be able to retrieve a more
focused list of books on your topic. Knowing the subject terminology prior to
performing a subject search is
crucial to accomplish a focused and accurate list of books.
NOTE: The Library of Congress' subject headings are spelled theater
(NOT theatre).
Here are some selected Library of Congress' subject headings
for theater:
theater, theater history, black theater,
experimental theater, feminist theater, musical theater, theater - political
aspects, theater - production direction, theater management, theaters,
theaters - stage setting
REFERENCE BOOKS (library use only):
By clicking on the links below you will be able to learn more about the
items.
ORDERING BOOKS FROM INTERLIBRARY LOAN
What do you do if Fogler Library does not have the book you want?
If it is another URSUS or MaineInfoNet library, use the "Request"
link in the catalog. If the book is not in either catalog, the
Interlibrary Loan Department can find and order the book for you. Go to the Interlibrary
Loan web site and fill out the online form. Directions are included on the
Interlibrary Loan pages.
